Everything we know about Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Glam has come to Freddy's.

When it comes to colorful animatronic animals that are looking to scare you to death, it doesn’t get much more creepy or as fun as Five Nights at Freddy’s. The original game released in 2014 on PC to much acclaim from fans and critics alike due to the simple gameplay with nuanced lore and backstory to the world and characters of the game.

If you’ve never played a Five Nights at Freddie’s game, the original premise is survival. Animatronic animals are stalking you, and you must ensure that none of them reach you by the end of a night to progress. Watching the cameras, checking sneak spots, and being vigilant help you to survive. It’s intense and is set in a very cool themed world, and has advanced further since to include more advanced mechanics.

It has since become something of a cult favorite, with solo developer Scott Cawthon continuing to develop games for the franchise and produce fun new experiences, for both the main series and its spin-offs, such as Freddy In Space 2. Last year even saw the first game to feature VR compatibility with Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted, where you could play through the previous games in virtual reality. The game was a success and proved that the series is a great fit for VR.

What we know about Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

In August 2019, a teaser for a new game appeared on the game publisher’s main website that would eventually be revealed as Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach in May 2020, but what do we know about the upcoming game?

For this new release, you can expect Freddie Fazbear and friends to have an 80’s style motif, with buildings within a mall setting revealed in the initial teaser including a laser tag arena, a cinema or theatre, and an arcade. There was also a set of glam rock characters that were present in the teaser, harking back to the 1980’s theme, with a leak from Funko’s website revealing upcoming pop vinyl figures from the franchise, including the likes of Glamrock Chica, Glamrock Freddy, a new alligator animatronic in Montgomery Gator, and Roxanne Wolf, meaning that these are likely the four from the initial teaser and will be present in the game.

Renders of each of the characters later appeared on Amazon via a calendar for the game series for 2020/21 that back this, though it has since been made unavailable. Freddie Fazbear in his very cool Glamrock form is on the logo for the game, revealed in May.

As with all of the games that use the Five Nights at Freddy’s naming convention, the game is likely to be in its point and click form, though whether this will be a VR sequel is currently unclear. Considering the success of the previous game, which was nominated for the VR Game of the Year in Steam’s 2019 Awards, an original VR game might be a good option to continue with from here onward.

When will it release?

As the games have all been fairly small in size so far, and the development time for each has been fairly swift, it’s almost certain that the game will be out this year, with the original teaser also showing 2020 at the bottom. The teases have been coming for about nine months now, meaning that the game could be coming very soon.

A PC release is a given, and with smaller games doing so well on consoles and mobile, along with Help Wanted being multiplatform, expect the game to be available on all platforms.
