How to fast travel, sail faster, and use auto-sail in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

All you need to know about travelling in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Sailing made its debut in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, but it was not present in many of the subsequent titles in the franchise. However, just like the previous two titles, players can sail in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Sailing can not only help in reaching lands across the sea, but it can unlock fast travel.

How to unlock fast travel

There are two ways to unlock fast travel points in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, first are synchronization points. After you have synchronized at a highpoint, marked by the eagle symbol on the map, you can simply fast travel to it. The second way to unlock fast travel points is by going to harbors. Once you have docked your ship at a harbor, the harbor can be used as a fast travel point.

How to fast travel

Fast traveling is quite easy. You can fast travel from anywhere on the map. All you need to do is open the map in-game and select a fast travel point. Simply hold the button indicated on the screen, which is left-click on PC (A/X on the controller), and you will fast-travel to the location. Keep in mind that you need to be disengaged from combat to be able to fast travel.

How to sail faster

Sailing can get quite tiresome in the game at times. Thankfully, there are ways to make it faster. When sailing, hold the spacebar (X/A on the controller) to open your sails and sail faster. There is an auto-sail feature as well, which simply allows the ship to sail on its own.

How to auto sail

To use auto sail, you need to first hold Z (X/Square on the controller) to follow the river/coast. This will guide the ship along the river or towards the coast automatically. When the ship is in this mode, press E (Y/Triangle on the controller) to follow the map/quest marker.

If you want to reach a specific location, simply mark it on the map, and use the follow map marker option to put the longboat on auto sail mode towards that location. If you want to reach the objective, open the map, remove all markers, and ensure the quest is being tracked. The follow map marker option will automatically change to the follow quest marker option, and the longboat can be put on auto-sail towards the objective.
