The effects of the Cyberpunk 2077 launch debacle and the ongoing pandemic continue to rear their heads as another big AAA game gets delayed. This time around it’s the highly anticipated open-world RPG Hogwarts Legacy.
This new piece of information comes from the game’s official Twitter account, which posted about its inevitable delay with a CDPR-style image. “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022,” it says.
Hogwarts Legacy was officially announced in 2020 during Sony’s PS5 event, though gameplay had leaked all the way back in 2018. While the information regarding how the game would eventually play is out still scarce, we do know that the game takes place in the 1800s and that players will be able to brew potions, learn spells, tame magical beasts, and even travel outside of Hogwarts.
While a new game in the Harry Potter universe has many excited, Hogwarts Legacy had also been surrounded by controversies, one of which is in regards to the involvement of author JK Rowling.
As unfortunate as the delay may seem to some, it’s promising to see the developers taking the well-deserved time to polish the game until it’s in the best of shape. This is one of many major delays expected to be announced throughout 2021, as the shockwaves sent out by development slowdowns caused by COVID-19 continue to reveal themselves.
